Stud.IP is an open source project and subject to the GNU General Public License (GPL). The system is in a continuous process of development. In order to use the full range of functions in Stud.IP, you need to sign in to the system. Doing so has many advantages, including:
• worldwide internet access to the complete course catalog, with information on class meeting times and locations,
• notification of new messages or files added since your last visit,
• your own personal profile within the system,
• the possibility to send messages to your classmates or to chat with them,
• and many more.

By signing in, you agree to the following terms of use:
Terms of use
1. Stud.IP bears a real-name obligation for all accounts that are registered directly by the user. The user is obliged to give his or her correct forename and surname. The registration name that is necessary to login may be freely chosen within the technical limitations of the program. For accounts that are set up through the computer center, this registration name is provided by the registrar's office, the computer center, or another authorized body.

2. The default e-mail address of the user within Stud.IP is the same as the user's university e-mail address. If the user changes this default e-mail address to another non-university e-mail address (which should only happen in exceptional cases), the user must ensure that his or her entered e-mail address is valid and functional.

3. The university e-mail account provided to the user should not be confused with the messages that can be sent within Stud.IP. Users may receive important information from their instructors, examination offices, and other sources via either or both of these platforms. Users should therefore regularly check both their university e-mail account and Stud.IP for new messages or e-mails.

4. All other information about the user is not compulsory. If you enter further information, it will only be accessible to other registered users in the system. Exceptions to this are automatically generated personnel indexes of the participating institutes and possibly details regarding degree program, semester, and graduation status.

5. The user must make sure that he or she does not violate any applicable laws or regulations when using the Stud.IP communication system. The university reserves the right to carry out random checks. In particular, the user is obliged:
a. not to use Stud.IP to access or distribute immoral or illegal material,
b. to heed the applicable child protection regulations,
c. to respect the privacy of others and under no circumstances to post or send harassing, libelous or threatening material,
d. not to execute any applications that may lead to a change in the physical or logical structure of the shared net.

6. The use of Stud.IP for any other form of advertising or marketing is not permitted, in which case the user is obliged to compensate Stud.IP for any damage caused.

7. The user is obliged to protect his or her access to Stud.IP from any unauthorized use by a third party. Stud.IP advises that the user's password should not be passed on to others. The user is liable for any unauthorized use of his or her account, insofar as he or she was at fault through his or her actions.

8. If the user violates the conditions listed above, his or her access to Stud.IP will be immediately blocked.

9. For reasons of fairness, the user agrees that any files he or she uploads to Stud.IP can be checked by means of an external plagiarism recognition service.
